The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and Salkantay Trek includes all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). During the excursion, except for breakfast on the first day, as well as lunch and dinner on the last day of the trek. Food on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and Salkantay
The food on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is already included. So the visitor will not have to carry a luggage full of kitchen utensils.
The meals are prepared by professional chefs specialized in this type of adventure treks. The ingredients and utensils are transported by the porters to each campsite. This way, when the visitors arrive there, the meals are already hot and served.
Our chefs prepare light meals among fruits, vegetables and meats.
The food has a high energetic value necessary for you to be able to complete the walks we offer.

Kuskandes Trek recommends that to do the Inca Trail and the Salkantay trek it is necessary to have a light diet because in the altitude of the city of Cusco (3,400 meters above sea level).
This usually has an effect on organisms that are not accustomed to the altitude generating the discomfort known as altitude sickness (also called mountain sickness).
In case you have any kind of food allergy, please inform us before the hike. How is the breakfast during the treks with Kuskandes Trek?
The Inca Trail includes breakfast on day 2, day 3 and day 4. It does not include the first day since we leave Cusco very early in the morning.
All breakfasts are served very early in the morning before starting the trek. These consist of a buffet of: fruit salad, scrambled eggs, toast, bread, cheese, cake, omelets, porridge, cereals, orange juice, milk, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, butter and jam.

What is lunch like?
The Inca Trail includes lunch on day 1, day 2 and day 3. It does not include lunch on day 4. There visitors can have lunch in the town of Aguas Calientes.
All lunches are served between noon and one in the afternoon (as tourists arrive from the hike). Our meals consist of: stuffed avocado, sausages, french fries, vegetable salad and boiled potatoes. And if you feel a little cold you can enjoy a cream of asparagus, corn soup and mushroom soup.
As main course we serve: spaghetti bolognaise, chicken with rice, ceviche, beans and fried fish. How is the dinner at the Adventure Treks?
Our treks include dinner on the first and penultimate day. It does not include dinner on the last day since by then the visitors will already be in the city of Cusco.
Dinner is served between 5 and 6 pm (when we have already arrived at our camp). Dinner is usually: stuffed chicken, vegetable tortillas, pizza, spaghetti, pork chop, sautéed vegetables and salad.

Kuskandes Trek prepares a surprise for our travelers; a special preparation that you will enjoy every bite as a farewell ceremony. In some cases we also make a toast with Peruvian cocktails.
Drinks and snacks on treks with Kuskandes Trek
Our treks include drinks and snacks. These are served at the campsites. They offer mineral water and rehydrating drinks. Also fruits and cookies.
However, the amount of water and snacks included are often not enough for the physical exhaustion of the tourists. Therefore, it is advisable to carry 1 liter of water per day. In addition, it is always advisable to have fruits, chocolates, cookies or whatever the visitor believes necessary.
Vegetarian and vegan option on hikes
Our treks include vegetarian and vegan options. These food options must be requested during the purchase of the Inca Trail tour (6 or 7 months in advance).
The local cooks of Kuskandes Trek
The cook plans and budgets the meals considering each product to be used. We consider the diets and dietary restrictions of each passenger, both in terms of quantity and quality.
Our cooks are local people, experts in preparing the best food for your trek. They have learned from their parents the most hidden secrets of seasoning a good Peruvian dish.

All of them have studied and trained in cooking. However, what stands out the most is the family heritage, the tradition, the combination of flavors, sweet, salty, sour, all of them are present in the kitchen.
