Short Hike
Choquequirao trek 4 days Overview
The archaeological monument of Choquequirao is considered as the second Machu Picchu and is also known as the lost Incan city. It’s situated at the foot of the Padreyoc Mountain at 3030m at the left side of the Apurimac River. In the Incan era it was the communication road to Machu Picchu through a complex network of trails. The nature is fantastic with valleys, snow-capped mountains; a great variety of plants, coffee and banana plantations and birds, sometimes condors can be spotted during the trek which makes it impossible to forget.
Trip Details:
Itinerary Choquequirao trek 4 days
Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capulichayoc – Chikisca
At 5:00 a.m. we pick you up in our transportation for a 3 hour long journey that will take us to the city of San Pedro de Cachora (2800m) where we will have some free time to eat breakfast. Here we’ll meet the rest of the team (cooks, horsemen and horses). We begin our 6 to 7 hour long trek. Our first stop is the Capulichayoc viewpoint where we can see the deepest canyon of the world known as the Apurimac where the majestic Apurimac River flows; we have our lunch here while seeing the first glimpse of Choquequirao. After lunch we descend for around 3 hours until reaching CHIKISKA (1800m) where we set camp and pass our first night surrounded by the majestic landscape close to the Apurimac canyon.
Day 2: Chiquisca – Marampata – Choquequirao
After a steady breakfast we begin our trek uphill during 4 to 5 hours to the campsite of Marampata (2950 m.a.s.l.) where we will have lunch with an amazing view of the Apurimac River. After our lunch we’ll have a complete guided tour of Choquequirao “The Golden Cradle” which is also considered as the sister city of Machu Picchu as they have several similarities. Choquequirao is hanging 1500 meters above the Apurimac Canyon while Machupicchu is haging over the Urubamba canyon. They are both at the same latitude and they are considered as the principal cities of the Incan era, Choquequirao has more than 8 hectares where only one third has been discovered and where the archaeologists find something new every day. We observe the three levels of the discovered ruins where we can appreciate the urban sector, agricultural terraces and the religious sector if this Incan city. We will also have great opportunities to see the flight of the condor. After visiting Choquequirao we return to our campsite for teatime and then a delicious dinner.
Day 3: Marampata – Chiquisca
At dawn we have a delicious breakfast before we begin to descend the same way we ascended until reaching our campsite in Chiquisca. We will have lunch halfway to Playa Rosalina and afterwards we go up hill to the campsite in Chikisca.
Day 4: Chiquisca – Cachora – Cusco
Today we have breakfast early; at 6:00 a.m. we eat accompanied by the first rays of sun over the Apurimac canyon. After breakfast we begin our 5 to 7 hour long trek to Cachora, we’ll have lunch in Capulichayoq which is half way. Arriving in Cachora we take our bus back to Cusco. The tour ends with transfer to your hotel.

EXCELLENT Based on 10 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor World Travel N31. July, 2022.Verified Best Tour I've ever had! Américo gave us the best tour we could ask for.We were 6 peoples, went por 10 days. He made so interesting every place we went with all the history and knowledge that he shared, so it felt different and special his treatment instead of just going, take the picture and go. Also, the experience in the Salkantay trail it was magical and authentic as if we were the Andean man. I was a little bit worried for my 9 y/o son because the route is of high difficulty, but Américo and his crew were very helpful that made it very easy and pleasent for my kid, they answered all his questions and took cared of his needs.
The food was delicious every day of the tour and made by a private chef just for us. In short the crew made sure to cover all our needs.
The whole experience made me fell in love of Peru and its culture. Everyone in my family was please and happy for the amount of details and care.
I would definitely repeat this tour. It exceed my expectations. I hope i can come back and hire KuskAndes Treck for another tour.Posted on Tripadvisor David P4. If you are ready to have the greatest experience of your life get in touch with them and book your incredible experiencePosted on Tripadvisor Antonio M22. April, 2022.Verified Machu Picchu alternative trek - Inka experience Americo went above and beyond to make our experience in Machu Picchu unforgettable! We arrived to Cusco in the middle of the strikes closing the main roads and whilst many tourists ended up trapped, Americo organised an alternative route to make our trip possible. Highly recommend him!Posted on Tripadvisor leticiaguti856. Mucha suerte!Posted on Tripadvisor Maricela8. May, 2020.Verified Trek Peru Guía increíble, trato excelente , no te lo puedes perder! Cada paisaje vale la pena y las caminatas son cansadas pero todo es increíblePosted on Tripadvisor Santina O1. February, 2020.Verified Trek to Machu Picchu Two summers ago my two girlfriends and I did the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. It was simply the most magical experience of my life. This trek is not easy and the altitude is no joke. However, the accomplished feeling you receive when you finally catch a glimpse of Machu Picchu is unmatched and totally worth every mile climbed. We complete our trek with Terrias Vivas, and had some issues. But our guide, Americo, became like a best friend to us (it was only the three of us and the guide for our trip). I was so happy to hear that he recently opened his own trekking company because he is amazing! He is SO intelligent and can identify nearly every single flower, plant, bird, etc. that he sees. He has such a kind heart and I wish that everyone hiking the Andes had the opportunity to have him as their guide.
In conclusion, this tour is definitely worth it. Again, Americo is incredible and I walked away with not only photos of incredible views, increased knowledge of culture and history, and full bellies but I also gained a great friend in the process!
