ausangate trek to rainbow mountain | Tour 7D/6N Overview

Ausangate is one of the most impressive hikes kuskAndes offers you to know a little part of the Andean mountain range better known as Vilcanota located southeast of the city of Cusco in which is also located the highest snowy of the Cusco region (6385 m.a.s.l.) about 100 kilometers from the capital of the Tahuantinsuyo navel of the world where you will have the opportunity to meet the South American camelids such as llama, alpaca, vicuña, which are animals of the South American camelids such as llama, alpaca, vicuña. m) about 100 kilometers from the capital of Tahuantinsuyo navel of the world where you will have the opportunity to meet the South American camelids such as the llama, the alpaca, the vicuna, which are animals that are part of the Andean culture of the people of these communities in the district of Ocongate to the same that overcame this difficult geography having a very extreme life of survival.

The Ausangate Trek or Ausangate Trek offers a true wildlife experience, and is the most challenging hike offered in the Cusco region. This is a great hike for nature lovers, you can observe a lot of wildlife. The scenery in this part of Peru is very impressive: snow-white snow-capped peaks and bright blue and green lagoons are just some of the scenic highlights. There is also a cultural element to this Ausangate trek, as it passes through several isolated Andean communities where the way of life has changed little since the reign of the Incas.

The Ausangate 7 day trek starts in the city of Cusco, this is part of the Andean Cordillera, one of the highest and most desolate areas and fantastic Andean landscapes in Peru. The Ausangate is the most representative mountain within the Andean culture in the Andes of Cusco.

It is part of a solid group of mountains whose peaks reach up to 6,372 meters above sea level (20,905 feet). The turquoise lagoons, large fields and stone forests have turned the area into a moonlit paradise completely separated from the modern world.

The Ausangate 7 day trek is a fantastic adventure in which it is possible to get to see a sunset in the mountains and eternal snow. Often there are rock peaks that climb to over five thousand meters high and also pieces of ice that fall vertiginously and the formation of lagoons of glacial origin.

The access to the Ausangate snow-capped peak is by an asphalted track taken from the road to Tinki. You need to be in good physical condition for this trek, since this trek has a duration of 5 days and suffers changes in altitude and temperature.

Our experience as a tour operator on this route gives us the support that your stay on this trip will be as pleasant as possible and you can be sure to trust our services, as well as the quality of the staff that our company, Peru Andean Travel, has.

You will be able to see a spectacular scene of Andean Quechua villages that continue to live in a typical way (developing community agriculture and raising llamas, alpacas and vicuñas).

Some high altitude treks or more strenuous activities, but accessible to most healthy travelers.

HIGHLIGHTS: Full-day treks (8-10 hours), mountainous and rugged terrain (climbing or descending up to 3,500 feet) on many treks. In this category are trips with hikes at average altitudes of 9,515 to 10,005 feet.

Travel Guide

HOW TO GET TO AUSANGATE?

It is necessary to take a public bus from Cusco to Tinki. The bus terminal is located 10 minutes (by cab) from the city of Cusco. The company is called SIWAR, a bus leaves every 20 minutes and the prices are reasonable. Make sure that the destination of the bus is Ocongate, which is a larger town than Tinki and is also located before Tinki. Check that the bus will continue to Tinki. Travel time by bus is approximately 4 hours on the road to Puerto Maldonado. Tinki is located at about 3,575 meters and accommodations and restaurants are scarce. We recommend leaving Cusco at 5 a.m. and starting the hike the same day to the first camp called Upis.

ACCLIMATIZATION FOR THE AUSANGATE TREK

Since the Ausangate Trekking requires daily high mountain passes. At least three acclimatization treks are recommended before embarking on the magnificent adventure. The best way to achieve this goal is to hike to Cristo Blanco in the city of Cusco (3,700 m) and do the Maras Moray trek, both of which are located at higher altitudes than Cusco.

BEST TIME TO DO THE AUSANGATE TREK

The best season to trek the Ausangate region is from April to November. This is to maximize the amount of clear days, since most of the activities we recommend take place outdoors. However, the favorable weather attracts more hikers and if you want to enjoy these beautiful places in an exclusive way, it is recommended to make the hike in the last days of March or in the month of December. Keep in mind that you can hike Ausangate at any time of the year (in case you do it on your own) and that prices increase (in the agencies that offer the trek) due to low demand because it is more difficult to find daily departures.

TAKING A TOUR VS. GOING ALONE

The advantages of scheduling a hike with a travel agency stand out at first glance, since there is a large staff of professional guides who safeguard the integrity of the adventurer during the entire tour, since they take care of even the smallest details, sometimes cumbersome, so that the globetrotter only worries about enjoying the entire journey and thus enriching the experience to the point of making it indelible. On the other hand, there is the possibility of doing the hike on one’s own. To carry out this trek the necessary requirements are to have previously done treks above 4000 m., to have adequate equipment, to stock up on sufficient food supplies and to be fluent in Spanish and/or Quechua. In this way you will avoid misunderstandings and bad intentions, which as we know, happen anywhere in the world.

CLIMATE OF AUSANGATE

Due to the geographical conditions of the Andes, the weather here can be, and almost always is, unpredictable and the Ausangate Trek trek includes a temperature oscillation between 10-20º C during the day if it is sunny, to 05-10º during the day if it is not sunny. Being at high altitude it is not hot but the sun is intensely strong which makes this condition the biggest battle. On the other hand, the temperature drops significantly in the afternoon and especially at night, reaching -10°C or even lower in the dry season. That is why warm clothing is required for this hike.

ENTRANCES TO AUSANGATE

The trek to Ausangate includes transit through several communities and these communities are responsible for the maintenance of the route, as well as offering camping services, toilets and even night guards, for which you have to pay and are already stipulated rates. Obviously, a guided hike may or may not include the respective payment of these fees. Clarify yourself on the subject before contracting the services of a travel agency.

Best Tour I've ever had! Américo gave us the best tour we could ask for.We were 6 peoples, went por 10 days. He made so interesting every place we went with all the history and knowledge that he shared, so it felt different and special his treatment instead of just going, take the picture and go. Also, the experience in the Salkantay trail it was magical and authentic as if we were the Andean man. I was a little bit worried for my 9 y/o son because the route is of high difficulty, but Américo and his crew were very helpful that made it very easy and pleasent for my kid, they answered all his questions and took cared of his needs.
The food was delicious every day of the tour and made by a private chef just for us. In short the crew made sure to cover all our needs.
The whole experience made me fell in love of Peru and its culture. Everyone in my family was please and happy for the amount of details and care.

I would definitely repeat this tour. It exceed my expectations. I hope i can come back and hire KuskAndes Treck for another tour.

Machu Picchu alternative trek - Inka experience Americo went above and beyond to make our experience in Machu Picchu unforgettable! We arrived to Cusco in the middle of the strikes closing the main roads and whilst many tourists ended up trapped, Americo organised an alternative route to make our trip possible. Highly recommend him!

Trek to Machu Picchu Two summers ago my two girlfriends and I did the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. It was simply the most magical experience of my life. This trek is not easy and the altitude is no joke. However, the accomplished feeling you receive when you finally catch a glimpse of Machu Picchu is unmatched and totally worth every mile climbed. We complete our trek with Terrias Vivas, and had some issues. But our guide, Americo, became like a best friend to us (it was only the three of us and the guide for our trip). I was so happy to hear that he recently opened his own trekking company because he is amazing! He is SO intelligent and can identify nearly every single flower, plant, bird, etc. that he sees. He has such a kind heart and I wish that everyone hiking the Andes had the opportunity to have him as their guide.
In conclusion, this tour is definitely worth it. Again, Americo is incredible and I walked away with not only photos of incredible views, increased knowledge of culture and history, and full bellies but I also gained a great friend in the process!
