How to get to Machu Picchu? This is one of the most frequently asked questions about Kuskandes Trek. In the next article we will show you four different routes to reach one of the «Seven Wonders of Machu Picchu».

1.- Choquequirao by train:

The map shows the train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo as it is the shortest and most frequent route. There is also a train from Cusco, but it is only offered by Peru Rail and on some of its better services. To get to Ollantaytambo from Cusco, several buses and vans circulate 24 hours a day. Just ask where it is in any taxi or hotel. More than 2 years ago there were 10 soles per person in the vans.

Currently there are two companies: Peru Rail and Inca Rail. For Peruvians there is a commuter train whose ticket can be purchased on the DNI.

2.- Choquequirao via Santa Teresa

It is recommended to go there if it is NOT rainy season. The rainy season usually runs from December to March, but you never know when it comes to the weather. It is always better to check with the tourist office that the itinerary is in good condition for the travel dates.

3.- Choquequirao on the Inca Trail

It is the most famous and best preserved road of the entire length of the Inca roads belonging to the Inca Empire.

These are cobbled streets that cross important archaeological complexes such as Huayllabamba, Runcuracay, Sayacmarca, Puyupatamarca, Huíñayhuayna and Intipuncu to the great citadel of Machu Picchu.

It is a trek that can last 4 or 2 days depending on the starting point. It is compulsory to go with a guide and that is why an Inca Trail tour should be booked. Prior booking is mandatory as there is a maximum number of tickets per day to guarantee your place.

4.- Choquequirao Trek to Salkantay

The minimum duration to visit Machu Picchu through the Salkantay route is 5 days. People who choose this route are recommended to be in good physical condition as this trek is very demanding.
