Itinerary Ausangate Trek 3 days with Rainbow Mountain
Day 1 - Cusco- Tinqui - Upis .
We leave Cusco at 05:00 with a private van for about 3 hours to the starting point of the hiking trail called Upis Pampa. Pass the district of Urcos in Tinqui Ocongate . We will start our expedition from the city of Quinsapucyu and arrive in Upis. Huarmisaya , walk with sensational views including the spectacular Mount Ausangate and meet local farmers in their costumes. We arrive in Upis where we have lunch and stay overnight in our shelters. After our delicious meal, we have the option to hike to Lake Upis , which requires a 2-hour round trip, or we can take a dip in the hot springs near our private camp.

Day 2 - Upis - Puca Cocha - Ananta
We will wake you up at 5am with a cola or coffee delivered to your cabin and you will enjoy a delicious breakfast for the day to come. In the morning, we drive to the Arapa Pass at 4989m ( 16567 feet) from where we have a breathtaking view of the colorful mountains. Then we continue our journey to Puca Cocha where we have lunch. Along the way we will see llamas and alpacas, the snow-capped Ausangate on the left and you will have an English-speaking guide to explain a little about the flora and fauna and talk about the countryside along the way. If we are lucky we will see condors, chinchillas and vicuñas.
After lunch, we will go to the Pucacocha pass where we will have an impressive view of the Ausangate mountain with 3 lakes below. We will then go down to our camp in Ananta where we will spend the night in our shelters. As usual, tents will be set up for changing, nap and dinner prepared by our professional chef.

Day 3 - Ananta - Mountain of Colors - Qesuno - Cusco
Today is the day you’ve been waiting for. We wake you up at 03:45 with the coke delivered to your tent, then we begin the first ascent to the Ananta Pass (15,090 feet – 4,500 m – 14,000 feet ) from where you can see this incredible mountain rainbow in the distance, but no, you are still completely there! From this place we descend to go around the lake and continue through a Peruvian plain until we reach the final climb to Rainbow Mountain. So we have a 360 degree view of the spectacular scenery that surrounds you. Enjoy the view and make the most of the space.
After enjoying the rainbow mountain, we have the opportunity to visit the red valley. We then walk for about 1 hour to the bus station, where we say goodbye to our driver. We will then drive for about 3 hours and drop you off at your hotel around 5pm

Recommendations
- If you have symptoms of altitude sickness, get off as soon as possible. No problem with that.
- Our guide always has essential oxygen cylinders when climbing more than 5040 meters of altitude! Not all tour companies offer this, so it’s something to consider when choosing the best Rainbow Mountain tour operator.
- Make sure you are acclimated to Cusco’s altitude before climbing Rainbow Mountain. It is by far the best insurance for a peaceful and pleasant trip. We recommend that you spend at least 2 days in Cusco before the excursion.
- Batteries tend to freeze to death; put them in the sleeping bag.
- A higher altitude also means cooler, near-freezing temperatures, so be prepared. If you decide to go on a multi-day trip, remember to pack very warm clothes. Also bring coca leaves to relieve altitude sickness and pack as little equipment as possible to get around easier.
- It is easy to rent equipment in Cusco if you need something, for just a few dollars a day for each piece .

Ausangate
Location: At 6,350 masl, Coyllur Riti Sanctuary is located at 4,700 masl.
Climate: The daytime temperature is 11 to 13 degrees Celsius and at night it drops from 4 to 10 degrees Celsius in June and July.
Despite many centuries of western cultural imposition, the peasants, shepherds, simple men and women of Peru’s rural areas have maintained several ancestral elements. One of the areas that have experienced few changes is precisely the Andean communities that are located in the Andean mountain ranges. Ausangate is the most representative mountain of the Cusco Andes. It forms a great massif with several summits that surround its main peak located at 6,372 meters above sea level. The turquoise lagoons, extensive high plains and stone forests turn the area into a lunar paradise totally isolated from modernity.
An indescribable adventure is walking in the vicinity of Ausangate. It is common to find rock needles that rise to more than five thousand meters high and also with tongues of ice that fall vertiginously and form glacial lagoons.
The eighty-kilometer trek around Ausangate takes six days and can be done on foot or on horseback. The circuit has a series of attractions that make it one of the tourist areas with the greatest potential for trekking and climbing in Peru. The beautiful snow-capped mountains, the turquoise glacial lagoons, the ice caverns and the hot springs add to the possibility of alternating with friendly and kind peasants of small villages.
It is necessary to have previous and adequate acclimatization in the city of Cusco. You walk an average of four to five hours a day and both in Upis, camp on the first day, and in Pacchanta, at the end, it is possible to enjoy some comforting hot springs.
Submerged at more than 40 degrees Celsius, you can enjoy a comforting warmth in a very cold outside environment that reaches five degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

Along the Ausangate trail, temperatures fluctuate between 10ºC and 20ºC during the day when it is sunny and between 05ºC and 10ºC during the day when there is no sun. Due to the altitude of the fields, temperatures drop significantly in the afternoon and especially at night, where they can reach -10 ° C or even drop in the dry season. Therefore, warm clothing is especially necessary for this excursion.
The rainy season in the Andes runs from November to April, with the wettest months from January to March.
